🛠️ How to Edit Pipe Network Catalog Using Part Builder in Civil 3D
Convert PVC Pipes to GRP Pipes & Customize Structures
If you're working on a pipe network project in AutoCAD Civil 3D, you may need to modify default pipe parts or structures to meet project-specific requirements. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to use Part Builder to convert PVC pipes to GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) pipes and also customize structure parts (like manholes or junctions) in your catalog.
🔄 What You'll Learn:
How to access and use Part Builder in Civil 3D
Rename and modify existing PVC pipe parts to represent GRP pipes
Change key parameters like material, inner diameter, wall thickness, etc.
Edit structures like manholes, including size and naming conventions
Apply and test the modified parts in a real Civil 3D pipe network
📝 Step-by-Step Instructions:
✅ Step 1: Open Part Builder
Go to Home tab > Parts List > Launch Part Builder
Choose the part family you want to edit, for example: Pipe > PVC Pressure Pipe
✅ Step 2: Clone and Rename the Part
Right-click the pipe part and select Clone
Rename it to something like GRP_Pipe_100mm
✅ Step 3: Edit Parameters
Open the part's parameters section
Change the material from PVC to GRP
Adjust dimensions (inner/outer diameter, thickness) as per GRP specs
✅ Step 4: Modify the Structure
Switch to Structures tab inside Part Builder
Clone and rename the structure part
Edit values like base diameter, riser height, or frame type
✅ Step 5: Save & Apply
Save your changes
Restart Civil 3D (or reload catalogs)
In your Parts List, select and use the updated GRP pipe and structure in your design
