Calculate Area and Perimeter in AutoCAD for Concrete Volume & Formwork Quantities
What is Explained in This Video?
In this video, I explain a simple and practical Area and Perimeter Method in AutoCAD to calculate concrete volume and formwork quantities for house foundations, columns, and beams. This method helps civil engineers, quantity surveyors, site engineers, and engineering students perform quantity takeoff quickly and accurately.
First, I draw the house foundation, columns, and beams in plan view inside AutoCAD. After completing the drawing, I create separate hatch areas for footings, columns, and beams. Keeping the hatch separate makes it easier to measure each structural member independently.
Then, I use the AREA command in AutoCAD and click on the footing hatch. AutoCAD instantly gives the surface area and perimeter. The area value helps estimate the bottom surface area used for concrete calculations, while the perimeter value is useful for estimating formwork quantities around the footing.
The same process is repeated for columns and beams by selecting their separate hatch regions. This method removes manual measurement work and provides a faster and more reliable way to estimate quantities in construction projects.
In This Tutorial You Will Learn:
- How to draw foundation, columns, and beams in AutoCAD plan view
- How to hatch footings, columns, and beams separately
- How to use the AutoCAD AREA command
- How to calculate area and perimeter with one click
- How to estimate concrete volume using area values
- How to calculate formwork quantities using perimeter values
- A fast quantity takeoff method for construction projects
This Area & Perimeter Method is especially useful for foundation quantity estimation, beam quantity calculation, column quantity estimation, concrete volume estimation, and formwork measurement in residential building construction projects.
