Creating, editing, and assigning styles and labels to points in Civil 3D
1. Create a Point Style
Point styles control the appearance of points in the drawing (e.g.,
marker, size, and rotation).
Ø Open the Point
Style Manager:
· Go to the
Toolspace panel → Settings tab.
· Expand Point → Right-click Point
Styles → Select New.
Ø Define the Style:
· Information Tab:
Name your point style.
· Marker Tab: Choose
a marker symbol (e.g., X, circle, or custom block).
· 3D Geometry Tab:
Define the 3D appearance (if needed).
· Display Tab:
Control visibility, layers, and colors.
Ø Save: Click OK to
save the style.
2. Create a Point Label Style
Point label styles control the text displayed (e.g., elevation,
description).
Ø Open the Point
Label Style Manager:
· In the Toolspace
panel → Settings tab.
· Expand Point → Right-click Label
Styles → Select New.
Ø Define the Label:
· Information Tab:
Name your label style.
· General Tab: Set
text orientation and layout.
· Layout Tab: Define
the text components (e.g., elevation, description).
ü Click Add
Component to include fields.
ü Format the text
size, font, and color.
Ø Drag State Tab:
Specify appearance when labels are dragged.
Ø Save: Click OK to
save the label style.
3. Assign Styles and Labels to Points
Ø Assign During
Point Creation:
· Use the Create
Points tool from the Points menu or the Home tab.
· In the
command-line or dialog box, select a predefined Point Style and Label Style.
· Place points in
the drawing.
Ø Assign to Existing
Points:
ü Method 1:
· Select a point → Right-click → Properties.
· In the Properties
palette, choose a Point Style and Point Label Style from the dropdown.
ü Method 2:
· In the Toolspace
panel → Prospector tab.
· Expand Points → Select desired
points → Right-click → Edit Points.
· Assign styles and
labels from the editing menu.
4. Edit Point Styles and Labels
Ø To Edit a Style:
· Go to the
Toolspace panel → Settings tab.
· Right-click the
desired Point Style or Label Style → Select Edit.
· Make changes and
save.
Ø Update Multiple
Points:
· In the Prospector
tab, select multiple points.
· Right-click → Properties → Change
styles/labels for all selected points.
Tips:
1. Use Description
Keys to automate style assignment based on point descriptions.
2. Group points into
Point Groups for bulk style and label management.
